Service Project Idea: Book Drive

If you are looking for a great way to serve others consider having a book drive. Someday I hope to implement one on behalf of myself or the magazine. I always had big dreams of giving back to others and this was one idea that always stayed with me. It’s a rather simple idea – have people donate new children’s books and find a suitable place to donate them. Whether you are looking to improve a school in need’s library or want to pass them out at a children’s hospital, there are always kids who could use a book. I personally am partial to donating to a children’s hospital because I was once a patient there and volunteered at one for a while.

The hardest part of the book drive is how to get people to donate. I suggest giving something in exchange for the book. However, you don’t want to spend a lot of money on giving someone something, because it defeats the purpose. If you had all the money to spend you could just go out and buy a bunch of books on your own. Therefore, I think if you have a store you could give small discounts like 20% off an item in exchange for donating a book. If you are a college student perhaps you can partner with a school event for free admission or discounted admission to those students that donate. Or if you are just an individual with a particular organization you want to help perhaps reach out to a business and partner with them on a book drive.
